Aftermath
a Poem by Raquel Swann
With years on our side.
We thought we knew each other.
In the span of a few hours,
you were revealed.
In favor of hate – you are.
In favor of bigotry – you are.
In favor of misogyny – you are.
We will never be the same again.
I cannot bear to look into your eyes.
I weep for you.
In this Aftermath there are few absolutes.
I must stand alone now – absolutely.
I must evolve – absolutely.
I must move on – absolutely.
There is compassion and love out there.
I must find it and embrace it and fight for it.
Now that you are out of the shadows.
The spotlight shall never be uncast.
My heart is a desolate wasteland,
in the wake of the destruction you have caused.
