Chromosomes

Chromosomes

a Poem by Raquel Swann

When you look upon me

Tell me

Do you do so with a microscope?

Perhaps with scientific instruments

Identifying my chromosomes

Questioning my gender

Questioning my motives.

Or am I just a person

Not unlike you

Trying to locate

Fractional moments of

Happiness

In a world with

Microscopes

Scientists

Experts

Who won’t allow

Themselves to study

My soul.
