Flashing Lights
a Poem by Raquel Swann
I’d forgotten how lonely it was
In the beginning
Before the lights.
The ones which flickered
Across wireless connections
Onto flat rectangular surfaces
In the form of words and pictures
Which express emotions
Signifying someone was there
to hear my digital voice
And respond with compassion,
Friendship and understanding.
It’s funny how these flashing lights
Just have a way of
brightening up your day.
Wait!
No, it was just an app update.
