Here’s Where the Story Ends
a Poem by Raquel Swann
Inspired by the song of the same name
Oh the long years
We have spent
Drifting apart
Two boats at sea
Bound together
Severed by time
And change.
I will watch with
Caring eyes
That your boat
Reaches land safely
Those final words
You spoke to me
This evening
Deafening truth
Blinding reality
Aromatic agony
Embracing finality
Bittersweet actuality
Mangled my senses
I take with me
The souvenirs
Of which I
Hold dearest
With any luck
I will be lost
At sea forever
Waiting for weather
And erosion
To finish me off
Once and for all.
