Farewell
a Poem by Raquel Swann

Gravel beneath my feet may weary my aching body, but,
I choose to run
Away from doors closed behind me
Echoes of your voice linger
Bouncing off mountains in the distance.
It’s haunting.
Why did you speak your thoughts?
Why were mine so important?
If I never saw your face again
It would be too soon.
Pondering what would have been
Had I never uttered my feelings
Burned bridges in my heart
Torn apart by magnificent explosions
a blue dream faded into darkness.
Frustrated by memories
Fluttering hopes crushed
Farewell to an old world
A tired way of thinking
Searching for me
Finally.
