a Poem by Raquel Swann

I’ve been trained, groomed,

Polished and primed

For my role within society.

A classically trained actor

Playing the part

Professionally and beautifully

When the camera stops rolling

I return to my trailer

And sit in my fancy seat

As I look in the mirror

With disgust in my heart,

I practice a new script

One not written by

Traditional directors,

Producers or authors.

Maybe the next time the

Camera rolls

I’ll take those new lines

And take my character

In a new direction.

Wouldn’t that be something.
