Without
a Poem by Raquel Swann
In my wildest dreams,
I’m within your reach again,
And things are as they were.
Early morning phone calls
Hissing about the future,
Lecturing about past mistakes
While I idle, wishing you
Would hang up and just
Let me be.
With you gone, Mother
I wish to listen to every word
You spoke just to hear
Your sweet voice.
As I wait for my own judgement,
A day shall come when I see
Your smile again.
In your arms for protection
As eternity passes,
And time no longer tracks us down.
A Mother’s Day without you
Feels like the Sun itself
Fell out of sky,
Pulling air and life
Out of my lungs.
How can I stand alone
Without your love?
