a Poem by Raquel Swann

Sinking into quicksand

Every move I made took me

deeper, further towards

Drab clothing, white walls

Those that awaited me

On the other side did so,

Just so they could say,

“You’re meaningless,”

As I sunk into the abyss,

a hand reached out for me,

As I looked downward,

there is nothing for me down there

Any longer.

I grabbed the hand,

It hoisted me into a world

I could never have dreamed

Was possible.
