As the Walls
a Poem by Raquel Swann
As the walls closed in,
I lingered and,
watched for awhile to wonder
what would happen if they did
just that.
As the walls closed in,
they inched closer and closer,
there were many escape routes,
I thought I’d just slip out of one,
at the last minute,
like a super hero
at the end of a movie.
My movie,
will be much different.
As the walls closed in,
Before I knew it,
they were right on top of me.
and there was nowhere to run,
nowhere to hide as they closed in,
the walls that is.
As the walls close in,
I stand here different than before
the walls started to collapse.
If I was this person
when it all started,
I wouldn’t be here
getting crushed
as the walls closed in.
