Can’t Turn to You
a Poem by Raquel Swann
I could easily turn to drugs
For comfort
In temporary moments of euphoria,
Perhaps I’ll find truth and peace.
I could turn to alcohol,
Numbing my pain briefly,
Only to return worse
Than before.
I could turn to writing,
Jotting down my emotions for all
To misinterpret.
I could turn to social media,
A few likes send chills down my spine,
And dopamine through my veins,
Until the next Viral video
Takes over.
But I can’t, I just can’t
Turn to you,
Because you’re not there any more,
Absent of mind, body, and soul
Whilst I sit here alone,
Hoping, praying
You’re thinking of me,
If even for a second.
