Channel
a Poem by Raquel Swann
One ray of light refracted
Through a magnifying glass
Has the power to burn,
Destroy lesser worlds,
In the careless hands of children,
who for a moment imagine,
they possess the power.
Dealing death at will,
To hapless ants,
as they scout for food
Across miles and miles
Of concrete deserts.
I stand under your watch
Waiting for the sun to rise,
So you can finish what you started.
As you channel the light over me,
Will I burst into flames?
Or will a fiery Phoenix rise
From the ashes?
Striking with fury and desire
Fighting for my life…
My future.
Or am I just an ant
Powerless when a child,
Grabs a magnifying glass.
