Once
a Poem by Raquel Swann
Once in a dream I was the real me
dressed to the nines,
in the center of a ballroom.
all eyes were on me, and
a well dressed gentlemen
places his hand on the small of my back
and leads me to the dance floor.
I waited and listened intently but
there were no facetious snickers
nor cries of those calling foul.
As we spun around in circles,
there were genuine smiles
upon the faces of my closest
family and friends.
after the music stoped,
I glided back to my table.
Clanking wine glasses ensued,
as a stranger stood up and,
proposed a toast
to me.
As I woke up,
soaked with sweat,
I wished the world
would catch up to my dreams.
